How does facial recognition technology work?
Image capturing: First, an image of the person is captured using a digital camera or webcam. It captures the main features of the person’s face in the image, such as eyes, nose, mouth, etc.
Feature Extraction: Then, feature extraction is done from the image, using special algorithms to recognize the facial features of the person. This algorithm detects facial features such as eyes, nose, mouth, and cheeks and transforms them into a digital representation.
Pattern matching: In the next step, this digital representation is stored in a database, which stores information about already registered faces. Now, the facial recognition system searches the database and tries to give the best match to the user’s facial identity.
How does Face ID work?
Data Collection:
First, the Face ID sensor creates a 3D model of a person’s face and transfers it to their device. This model creates a detailed sculpt of the face using many figures and points.
Pattern matching:
Then, using the model transferred to the device, the Face ID system attempts to recognize the particular pattern of the user’s face. This pattern is combined with the patterns stored in the database referenced in the model.
Recognition: In the final step, the face ID system matches the facial pattern with the pattern referenced in the database. If a match is found, the device is unlocked, otherwise the device is not unlocked.
